Summer 2016 and the Carriage and Wagon team set to work on the guard’s van of the DMU, diesel multiple unit, our heritage railcar, named the Scenic Explorer.
The aim was to completely refurbish the interior and install a bar for the Summer Fish ‘n Ale trains.

The compartment was emptied, paintwork stripped down and measuring up for the new bar area began.

The ceiling and walls were repainted, new door fittings mounted, a new door made and mounted between the seating area and the guard’s compartment allowing wheelchairs to access the seating areas.

The centrepiece was a beautiful bar top kindly donated by Evan Evans brewery. It came from The George Pub in Brecon and will now be put to use to serve real ales and other drinks for a variety of events at the Gwili Railway.

As you can see, the compartment looks fantastic. Huge thanks to each and every member of the Carriage and Wagon team who’ve put in so many hours and done such a fine job on this project.
